Valve's founder says that developers have to show Sony that opening upwards PSN was a smart business move.

Gabe Newell has praised Sony's online scheme for the PS3, which allows third parties much more freedom and flexibility to provide subject and services. Newell says that Valve testament take in sure that Sony benefits from this flexibility, and thinks that other developers should follow suit.

Sony recently allowed Valve to bring its Steam platform to the PS3, enabling – among other things – crossbreed-program wager between the PS3 and PC in Portal 2. It has also allowed CCP to link its unimprisoned-to-play soothe shooter Dust 514 to its Personal computer MMO, Eventide Online. Newell said that it was a bold move, and one that Sony merited to benefit from.

"[Sony has] done the scary thing and I consider IT's up to us as developers to make a point Sony and its customers are rewarded," Newell said. "We and other developers have to show we're creating measure to Sony for opening up its meshing. We have to show them information technology's a smart business displace." He said that the spill of the first DLC for Portal 2 would show the appreciate of Sony's decisiveness to allow Steam onto the PS3, and that Valve would ferment hard to increase the "total play note value" of the game.

Sony's determination to open up PSN stands in stark contrast to Microsoft's approach to Xbox Viable. Live remains a closed religious service, and Microsoft has lost out on message and services because of information technology. Interestingly, Nintendo – which hasn't been especially mind-boggling in the online sports stadium before – has indicated that information technology will follow Sony's example with the Wii U, and allow publishers to use their own services on the console.
